When Guy Reynolds joined RBC Dexia as the Recruitment and Talent Manager one of the first tasks he undertook was to assess the success of the recruitment process for hiring high calibre individuals who were aligned to the culture of the company. RBC Dexia faced significant challenges in recruiting the right person for the right job in a tight talent market. There was a need for a robust framework that would improve the quality and fit of candidates, and allow the company to benchmark individuals against the market.
In his previous role as the Recruitment Manager of a large Insurance Company he had engaged PageUp People to provide psychometric testing to support the recruitment process. This had been highly successful. In addition to improving the quality and cultural fit of hires, it had also directly resulted in higher retention. Employees were far better suited to their roles leading to increased job satisfaction.
In addition to the prior positive business outcome, RBC Dexia engaged PageUp People to support the recruitment process for the following reasons:

PageUp People Psychometric Assessment was identified as the appropriate tool for supporting RBC Dexia's recruitment process to improve the quality and fit of potential hires, and to allow the company to benchmark individuals against the market. Psychometric assessment included verbal, abstract and numerical reasoning, as well as the job motivation questionnaire (JMQ) and occupation personality questionnaire (OPQ). The JMQ measures the motivators for the individual and how these align to the key motivators for the specific role. The OPQ is a personality assessment which assesses behavioural preferences including interpersonal and thinking style, feelings and emotions. This provides objective information about personality which is relevant to successful performance in aspects of the job. Together these assessments help to determine the behavioural, motivation and cultural fit of the candidate.
Guy Reynolds, Recruitment and Talent Manager has been impressed with the personalised approach from the PageUp People team, and their willingness to customise the solution to meet the specific challenges RBC Dexia faced. For each role the psychometric assessment was tailored to ensure that the competencies the individual was assessed against were the most relevant for not only the specific role, but also to the level or seniority of the position within the organisation.
Quality of customer service was also a huge factor in Reynolds choice of PageUp People. As part of the psychometric testing, individual face-to-face feedback was provided for each candidate and verbal feedback was provide to the Hiring Managers. Throughout the process PageUp People partnered with RBC Dexia to ensure maximum value was obtained from the psychometric testing. Based on the information obtained from the assessments and depending on the specific requirements of the role and the position, PageUp People focused on different elements within the validation interview to flesh out areas of interest to RBC Dexia.
Reynolds noted that the outcome of the psychometric testing was that RBC Dexia hired individuals of higher quality in terms of skills, competencies and cultural alignment. In addition to being better suited to the role, there was according to Reynolds the added benefit of increased retention. Bringing in the right person for the right role not only increases productivity for the organisation, it also increases job satisfaction for the individual resulting in reduced turnover.
