Thiess is a leading integrated engineering and services provider with diverse operations throughout Australia, South East Asia and the near Pacific. The company currently has more than 180 projects and employs upwards of 18,000 people.
Workforce planning manager, Melissa Lascelles has been with the company for two years and during that time has provided valuable input in the development and subsequent delivery of the Thiess human resource and recruitment strategy.
The human resource team needed to respond to two recruitment challenges in developing an innovative and progressive strategy.
The first was determining a holistic response to the ongoing skills shortage and the second was finding an integrated solution for both staff and workforce recruitment that could be implemented across the organisation as well as utilised for co-recruitment on joint venture projects.
"We identified that we needed the right tools to allow us to build a talent database and be more proactive in recruitment," says Melissa Lascellas, workforce planning manager.
The company created a team of Recruitment Champions with representation from each Business Unit. This committee worked together to identify the key preferred requirements of a recruitment software system.
Following these discussions, three vendors were sourced to demonstrate their systems and PageUp was subsequently chosen as the provider of choice.
PageUp People software was able to meet the workforce and staff recruitment needs of Thiess and also provided a high level of candidate tracking and reporting functions.
"The PageUp People software was considered the most appropriate for us to achieve our desired objectives," Melissa said.
"The system was implemented in an intense nine-week timeframe going live on 30 November 2005."
Thiess use 11 PageUp modules:
The management reports module comprising the internal forms builder and the source management tool has also been included.
Thiess recently went live with phase 2 in October 2006. This was the integration of new PageUp upgrades, incorporating the talent management module, artificial intelligence technology, the offer module, online job requisition and the events/booking module.
All of Thiess Business Units are operating the system.
Melissa said the company has been pleased with the results since the system was implemented.
"The software has been supported at all levels of the business and the flexibility and capability of the system has allowed Business Units to further manage their recruitment needs," she said.
